Position Description:
Argoneta is seeking a motivated and talented ocean engineering intern to join our underwater habitat development team. The intern will help to design, model, build/fabricate, assemble and improve on real-world underwater proofs of concepts, prototype projects and minimally viable products (MVP’s). The internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate with startup team members, and continue to build on your hands-on experience to date. You will receive mentorship and guidance from the existing ARGONETA team throughout your internship, helping you develop your skills and knowledge. Interns will also learn about BLUETECH and HARDTECH entrepreneurship as we build a high growth, software enabled, venture backable, design and engineering based business.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
● A junior, senior or graduate student currently pursuing a degree in Ocean/Marine Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Recent graduates in the past 6 months will also be considered.
● Prior internship experience.
● Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
● Excellent communication skills and the ability to document your work clearly.
● Enthusiasm for ocean/marine engineering and a desire to learn and grow in the field. ● Participation in extracurricular marine / ocean-based engineering activities or experience on competitive engineering teams which may include organizations or events such as the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) ROV competition, Robosub Competition, Seapearch, National Underwater Robotics Competition or International Submarine Races (ISR) aka Human Powered Submarine (HPS).
● Desire to work in a start-up environment where flexibility and willingness to roll-up your sleeves, and lean into unstructured problems, is a key attribute for success.
● Experience in working with the electrical aspects of underwater systems
● Possess an understanding of electronics, electricity, sensors, waterproofing canisters, and other technology. Also experienced with sizing and use of fuses, control boxes, penetrators and strain reliefs etc. and successful completion of safety reviews.
DESIRED:
● Experience with MATE safety procedures such as Expected Work Practices, Technical Bulletins for Sealing Brushless Motors or similar standards.
● Have experience with Solidworks Computer Aided Design software and experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
● Certified Basic Open Water Scuba Diver (PADI, SSI etc.)
For Consideration:
This is a part-time internship. You must be available for at least 5 hours per week to a maximum of 10 hours a week. The pay for the internship is $25/hour. This is a 100% remote position. There may be some limited travel to support testing of prototypes and MVP’s. Please note this position will start in August/September 2024 and conclude in December 2024 with the potential to extend to April 2025.
