About the Role:
This pivotal role will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, facilitating business operations, optimizing performance, and driving strategic initiatives. You'll have the opportunity to significantly shape Centaur Labs' growth trajectory and operational excellence as we strive to achieve our ambitious revenue and impact goals.
The Chief of Staff is tasked with boosting decision-making efficiency within the organization, especially for the CEO. The role involves strategic evaluations, overseeing various organizational projects to their completion, and assisting the CEO in day-to-day tasks to promote optimal performance and growth. This position does not include operational or direct line duties, nor the management of direct reports - although you may be tasked with hiring/managing an admin or People person in the near term. The primary objective of this role is to act as an extension of the CEO, ensuring the effective and efficient realization of strategic and value-enhancing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide the CEO with research, analysis, and well-informed recommendations to support major decision-making
- Lead and manage special projects assigned by the CEO, ensuring timely completion and adherence to scope
- Spearhead recruiting and people ops as we make key executive leadership and other hires
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives, such as the development and management of OKRs and performance review cycles, ensuring they align with the company’s overarching strategic goals
- Act as a key liaison between the CEO and the executive team, facilitating smooth communication and collaboration
Your most important job is to identify ways to give the CEO leverage. Beyond that - especially in the first ~6 months of the role as we build out our team after our Series B - you’ll be the primary person responsible for managing recruiting and People ops.
About You:
- You Are:
- Strategic and Data-Driven: Able to translate complex data into actionable strategies.
- Influential Communicator: High EQ, effective at providing and receiving feedback.
- Operationally Savvy: Thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
- You Have Experience In:
- 3+ years of consulting experience at BCG, McKinsey, or Bain with a strong promotion track, or experience similar to a consulting/MBA background.
- Proven ability to act as the right hand to a C-level executive, notably the company’s CEO.
- Implementing systems and processes that optimize performance and communication.
- Have some experience at a small (<200 person) startup
- Ideal Attributes:

- Context Switcher: Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bonus experience/attributes
- Because you’ll often take on special projects and plug holes, a wide range of special skills would also be valuable (e.g., data science, finance, design/marketing, etc)
- Experience in healthcare and/or artificial intelligence
- Location:
- We are a remote-first organization, but HQ and the CEO are in Boston. As a result, strong preference for candidates in Boston or within ~1hr time zone.
