Senior Director Statistical Programming

We’re looking for a Director/Senior Director of Statistical Programming in the Research Sciences (RS) Division to help us accomplish our mission to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. Research Sciences, an organization within Flatiron Health Evidence Solutions, provides customized RWD and RWE solutions to address the most important research questions across clinical development, market access, and commercial use cases for our life sciences partners and internal stakeholders. This role will directly oversee the Statistical Programming function within Research Sciences. Statistical Programming performs cohort selection as well as descriptive and inferential statistical analysis for all retrospective and prospective research conducted on Flatiron Health proprietary assets on behalf of life sciences customers. You and your team collaborate with cross-functional partners including study principal investigators, project managers, clinicians, data scientists, and software engineers to develop, commercialize, and deliver Flatiron’s evidence solutions. This position requires leadership, outstanding problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, and experience multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do
- Develop and manage a global team of statistical programmers responsible for the creation of analytic datasets, generation of descriptive and inferential statistics, and impactful data visualization, for retrospective and prospective studies utilizing data from both U.S.-based and international sources.
- Create and/or maintain standard operating procedures and working instructions related to conduct of statistical programming across multiple use cases spanning early discovery to commercial insights to external control arms (in accordance with regulatory guidance and/or local regulations).
- Serve as subject matter expert to junior and senior statistical programmers in the use of R (including tidyverse) through Git-based environments (e.g., GitHub, GitLab), ensuring best practices and high-quality code standards.
- Direct the strategy for continuous improvement of Flatiron’s proprietary analytical tooling and templates.
- Oversee and guide the development of training programs, performance goal setting, and performance review management for the statistical programming function.
- Provide senior strategic oversight to cross-functional teams to propose, design, evaluate, and implement new evidence solutions, analytical products, and services in support of business unit specific objectives.
- Proactively investigate and secure partnerships or collaborations that will drive efficiencies in Statistical Programming function.
- Serve as a member of the Research Sciences Leadership Team developing divisional objectives and establishing performance metrics.
Who You Are
- You have a PhD degree in Epidemiology or Biostatistics (or related field), plus 12+ years of experience (or a Master’s degree with 15+ years of experience) in retrospective and/or prospective real-world, observational research.
- Extensive experience in statistical programming, with a strong proficiency in R (including tidyverse) and Git-based environments (e.g., GitHub, GitLab).
- You have experience leading a large, mutli-level, growing team, are extremely thoughtful about management style, culture and leadership, and have the flexibility to work well with a team of diverse backgrounds and interests.
- You have deep understanding and awareness of the industry’s latest and upcoming innovations and technological breakthroughs in the Evidence Generation space.
- You have worked in a matrix-structured environment with multiple functional divisions.
- You are able to handle multiple tasks concurrently, to meet ongoing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- You are an excellent communicator, with experience drafting and developing complex, technical documentation and delivering presentations to scientific audiences.
Extra Credit
- Skilled in CDISC standards, with hands-on experience in SDTM, ADaM, and TLF statistics.
- Significant experience with other programming languages including SAS, Python, SQL and other data analytics tools used in the generation of RWD/RWE for regulated and non-regulated use cases.
