Product Engineer

Full-time · In-person or hybrid · American Tobacco Campus, Durham, NC

Company profile: In Stealth Mode.

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Engineer to join our team. You'll work directly with the founders designing and building mobile optimized platform and native app with Next.js, tRPC, Supabase, and Vercel. This isn't just coding; you'll help shape our product and transform how local merchants connect with communities. We are aggressively AI-forward and use teams of agents both to build and in our customer-facing product.

This is a full-time job (40+ hours/week) based out of our office at American Tobacco in downtown Durham, NC. We currently have our MVP product in use with multiple clients with an aggressive scaling roadmap.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop product features using Next.js, TypeScript, tRPC, and Supabase

  • Create responsive user interfaces with React and CSS modules

  • Implement type-safe backend functionality

  • Leverage a team of AI tools and agents to accelerate development

  • Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions

  • Meet with users to understand their needs and assist with testing

  • Own the mobile and native app build

What We're Looking For

  • Builder Mindset : You've shipped real products and love to create.

  • Self-Starting : You take initiative and proactively solve problems.

  • AI-Native : You're comfortable using AI tools to enhance your workflow.

  • Relevant Experience : You've built projects with React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks.

  • Fast Learner : You pick up new concepts quickly.

  • Collaborative : You communicate clearly and work well with others.

  • Cultural Alignment : We're obsessed with our mission, insatiably curious, and imaginatively rebellious. You share these values.

Ideal Background

  • Experienced engineer with a track record of shipped projects, internships, or personal work

  • Computer Science student, self-taught engineer, or bootcamp graduate

  • At least one shipped application or substantial project

  • Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows

  • Based near Durham, NC (this is primarily an in-person role)

What Success Looks Like

  • First 30 days: You understand the stack, the product, our merchants, and how we ship. You've landed at least one meaningful improvement and built trust with the founders.

  • First 60 days: You own multiple feature areas and are making real calls on UX, AI behavior, and reliability. You're meeting with clients and translating what you hear into product.

  • First 90 days: You own the mobile and native app build strategy end-to-end, shipping independently from problem definition through deployment. You're materially raising the bar on what we can ship and how fast.

Longer term, the path leads toward senior IC or engineering leadership as the team grows.

Compensation

Competitive base with meaningful early-stage equity. We'll talk specifics early so we're aligned before either of us invests serious time.
