Villagers is a Durham, NC startup that helps people and institutions find and support locally

owned businesses through our map of certified local merchants. We give those merchants

tools to build lasting customer relationships, and we help communities measure the

economic impact of buying local.

We’re an early-stage team working on a problem every town shares: keeping money local.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a talented Full Stack Engineer to join our team. You'll work directly with our

founders using our cutting-edge stack: Next.js, tRPC, Go, AWS, Supabase, and Vercel. This isn't

just coding – you'll help shape our product and transform how local merchants connect with

communities. We are AI-forward and use teams of agents to build and to help our customers

get the most out of our product.

This is a full-time job (40+ hours/week) based out of our office at American Tobacco in

downtown Durham, NC. We currently have an MVP product used by local retailers with an

aggressive scaling roadmap.

You will report directly with the Head of Engineering and work closely with the founders on

product decisions and technical implementation.

Ideal Background

Develop product features using Next.js, TypeScript, tRPC, Go, AWS, Supabase, and Vercel

Create responsive user interfaces

Implement scalable, secure, and type-safe backend functionality

Leverage a team of AI tools and agents to accelerate development

Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions

Meet with users to understand their needs and assist with testing

Builder Mindset: You've shipped real products or projects and love to create

Self-Starting: You take initiative and proactively solve problems

AI-Native: You're comfortable using AI tools to enhance your workflow

Relevant Experience: You've built projects with React, and ideally have worked with AWS,

Supabase, Vercel, or some combination of these.

Fast Learner: You pick up new concepts quickly

Collaborative: You communicate clearly and work well with others

Cultural Alignment: We're obsessed with our mission, insatiably curious, and imaginatively

rebellious. You share these values.

Early-career developer with experience through projects, internships, or personal work

At least one shipped application or substantial project

Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows

Based near Durham, NC (this is primarily an in-person role)
